Presidential Farewell Letter

Dear Parents/ Altar Servers,

Farewell Letter

I am writing this letter to inform you that I will be officially relinquishing my position as President at this year’s Investiture which would be held on the 27th of July 2008.

Looking back at the time I first took on this position, I would have to say that the Society has been through many eventful moments. The last 4 ½ years has seen the Altar Servers’ Society grow in so many aspects. None of these would have been made possible without the endless guidance of God, the patience and guidance of Fr Gerard Weerakoon and all the Altar Servers not forgetting the cooperation and support of their parents. These are some aspects in which the Altar Servers’ Society has grown in:

1. Standard of Serving
2. The Servers have become so much more responsible
3. Their spirituality has improved by leaps and bounds
4. Number of servers continue to increase

I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous Priests, Altar Servers and Parents for their support to the Society over the last 4 ½ years I have been President.

Please be informed that I will be handing over my responsibilities to Joel Moosa who will take over the Altar Servers’ Society as President beginning 27th July 2008. Nicholas Lim will continue as Vice President and he will guide Joel through the transitory period.

The transitory period will begin 16th June 2008 as I will be enlisting for National Service on that day and I seek your cooperation in supporting Joel Moosa and Nicholas Lim who will continue to lead the Altar Servers’ Society to greater heights.

I will still continue to attend the Executive Committee meetings as and when possible but I will be assuming an advisory role. I will also continue serving at Masses if time permits.

My prayers will always be with all of you and I will miss all of you dearly. Continue to Serve God passionately and faithfully, remember to pray every day and always remember that Serving requires lots of sacrifice.

Annoucements 7th-8th June 10th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1. There is a Pre-Retreat Briefing This Sunday at 2pm in the SFX Room in the Parish Centre.

2. If there are any changes to your parents’ handphone number, house address or your handphone number, please let Matthew Ch’ng know so he can update it.

3. Look the server in the eye when you wish each other the sign of peace.

4. Servers on readers’ side need not genuflect after returning the communion plate, just go back to your seat and kneel.

5. If you cannot serve mass due to school activities, holidays or some valid reasons please fill in the letter of excuse.

6. Since it is the school holidays, you are highly encouraged to serve weekday morning masses.

Announcements 31 May 1 June 9th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1.   Please return the Serangoon District Games Day consent form by this Sunday if you are interested to attend. The games day is not compulsory, but you are encouraged to attend.

2.   For the Games Day on 5^th June, meet in church at 8am sharp, and we will take public bus to St Anne’s Church. Bring your ez-link card.

Announcement Trinity Sunday 17th-18th May

 1. For Corpus Christi procession next Sunday, all servers are to be in the basement chapel by 9am, bring a bible, cape and sash. Rostered Group 3 servers are to serve the 9am mass next Sunday.

2.   Corpus Christi mass training for servers serving on the altar is on This Sunday at 3.30pm.

3.   The Parents’ Briefing for the Retreat is This Sunday at 2pm at the Parish Hall, remind your parents to attend if they are attending.

4.   Servers who are going for holidays or camps or unable to serve their mass due to valid reason are to fill up the letter of excuse.

5.   Servers who need a new servers’ T-shirt are to see Luke to try the sample.

1. The Corpus Christi roster is on the cupboard, check if you are serving on the altar, the rest of the servers are serving on the pews, bring cape and sash. Group 1 to 4 servers are to serve their usual weekend masses. Bring your bible on Corpus Christi.
2. Corpus Christi mass training for servers serving on the altar is on 18 May, Sunday at 3.30pm, and 23rd May, Fri at 8pm.
3. The Parents’ Briefing for the Retreat is Next Sunday at 2pm at the Parish Hall, remind your parents to attend if they are attending.
4. Servers who still have not handed in the Retreat and Parents’ Briefing consent must hand it up by This Sunday, the latest.

Annoucement 3-4 May 7th Sunday of Easter

1. Due to the upcoming exams, demerit points will not be issued to servers who did not serve their weekday mass this week. However, demerit points will still be issued to servers who did not serve their Ascension Day mass.
2. This is a final reminder for servers who have not done their cassock exchange, to get their cassocks by this week.
3. There is no Altar Servers’ meeting Next Sunday due to Mothers’ Day.
4. Servers who still have not handed in the Retreat and Parents’ Briefing consent must hand it up by this week.

Announcements 26-27 April 6th Sunday of Easter

1. This week will be the last week for cassock exchange, make sure you get your new cassocks from your fellow altar server.
2. Ascension Day roster is on the cupboard, please check when you are serving. Bring cape and sash. It is not counted as a weekday mass.
3. There is Altar Servers’ meeting This Sunday at 2pm. Bring a Bible to the meeting.
4. Please hand in the Retreat and Parents’ Briefing consent forms by This Sunday.

Annoucment 19-20 April 5th Sunday of Easter

1. The cassock exchange will be held this week and next week.
2. Check your current cassock size on the cupboard before passing or collecting your cassock. We will not entertain ‘no cassock’ as a reason for not serving mass, 2 demerit points will be issued as ‘Acts of Responsibility’.
3. There is Altar Servers’ meeting Next Sunday at 2pm. Bring a Bible to the meeting.
4. Please hand in the retreat and Parents’ Briefing consent forms by 27 April, Next Sunday.
5. Servers who are interested in going to Holy Spirit Church on 25 April, This Friday, give Matthew Ch’ng a call. More details are on the cupboard. It is counted as a weekday mass. Bring cape and sash.
6. Shawn is away from 19 April to 2 May, so Joel will be acting President.

Annoucement 12-13 April 4 Sunday of Easter

1. There is Altar Servers' meeting this Sunday at 2pm. Bring a Bible to the meeting.
2. Servers are to check their groupings for the meetings, which are in preparation for the upcoming retreat.Meetings will be held once every 2 weeks.
3. Facilitators are to meet in the Good Sherpard room this Sunday at 1.30 pm.
4. Severs are to wash their cassocks for the cassock exchange next week.
5. Return the Retreat Consent Forms and Parents' Briefing Consent Forms by Sunday,27th April . Try to pass it tomorrow during the meeting .Retreat is compulsory for all Altar Servers.
6. If you have CCAs or camps during the dates of the Retreat, please call Joel and ask him to write a letter for you to be excused from the CCAs or camps

Altar Servers' Gathering at Church of the Holy Spirit

Dear Parents/Altar Servers:

The above event aims at promoting fellowship and bonding between Altar Servers of different churches. It is hoped that through this event Altar Servers from other churches will get to know each other better.
The event consists of a Mass, followed by dinner and fellowship.

The details are as follows:
• Date:25th April 2008, Friday (Feast of St. Mark)
• Reporting Time: 7.15pm
• Reporting Venue: Chapel

This event is NOT COMPULSORY, however it is highly encouraged that your sons attend. Please take note that transport is NOT PROVIDED. All Servers attending should bring along their cassocks, cape and sash

Annoucement for 3rd sunday of Easter
1. Please hand in the Letter of Appeal by 13 April, Next Sunday, regardless or not you can serve Group 5. Servers who do not hand in the form will get 2 demerit points. Group Leaders and Group 5 servers are to read and do not need to take the letter.
2. If you cannot serve your weekday mass for some valid reason, call or sms Nicholas Lim instead, as he is doing the demerit points every week.
3. Shawn Wong will be away on holiday from 19th April to 3rd May.
4. The Obstacle Training Course will be postponed due to upcoming events like the Investiture and the Retreat.
5. All servers are to wash their cassock for cassock exchange next week.
6. Servers doing offertory torches are to bow with the Gift Bearers before processing to the back.

URGENT APPEAL

Dear Parents and Servers,

URGENT APPEAL FOR SERVERS TO SERVE SUNDAY 6PM MASS

We only have 6 Altar Servers at the Sunday 6pm Mass (Group 5) as of now and we are appealing for more Altar Servers to join Group 5.

We seek your cooperation in allowing your sons to serve at the Sunday 6pm Mass if it is convenient or if they are available either for an indefinite period of time or at least for the next 4 months up till July when investiture is over.

The other alternative the Altar Servers’ Society has, is to get all Altar Servers to serve at the Sunday 6pm Mass on a rotational basis in accordance to a roster similar to the Novena Rosters. However, please be assured that this measure will only be implemented if the appeal for more Altar Servers is unsuccessful.

2. Genuflect only if there is host on the altar, otherwise kneel if you are on reader’s side or bow if you are on father’s side before returning to your places.
